AFFECTION OF THE BRAIN DURING HIV-INFECTION DEVELOPMENT

The work presents results of the brain tissue examination in 54 patients which died in the Prophylactics and Struggle against HIV Center. In 45 cases HIV infection was serologically approved. All patients had no neurologic or psychiatric disturbances. Morphological changes in the brain tissue, involving neurons, glia and white substance were detected as a result of the investigation. The author suggests that HIV-affection of the brain is characteristic for all periods of the infection and not only for some certain stages. The author distinguishes types of affection associated with main localization of the changes in different structures of the brain. Variability of the affection was correlating with the duration of the pathologic process.
