MANGANESE IONS EFFECTS ON THE ERYTHROCYTE MEMBRANES OF RATS

The effect of manganese ions on the erythrocyte membranes of rats was studied. It is shown that when exposed to manganese ions there is observed increase in sorption capacity of red blood cell glycocalyx and increased levels of spontaneous hemolysis. At a load of manganese chloride in rats there is an accumulation of secondary products of lipid peroxidation — MDA. Studies suggest that a decisive role in the mechanism of toxic action of manganese cations is rupture of membranes.
