FEATURES OF SEIZURES-RELATED INJURIES

There is meagre information in literature concerning characteristics and risk factors of seizures – related injuries, especially head trauma. We studied the history of 128 epileptic patients and found that 38 % of them had various types injuries during seizures. The most common site of injuries was the head (59 %). Among them: brain concussion (7 %), subdural (4 %) and intracerebral (1 %) haematoma. Most injuries occurred at home. We confirmed that seizure type was the best predictor of sustaining trauma. In our investigation they were generalized tonic-clonic and myoclonic seizures. This information may be helpful for better management of patients with epilepsy.
