BIPOLAR TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION IN TREATMENT OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY

Assessment of efficacy and safety of bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate compared to a conventional monopolar one was carried out. There were examined 141 patients with benign prostatic hypertrophy surgically treated by transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) during the period from 2007 till 2011; 72 patients were carried out a bipolar TURP and 69 patients — a monopolar one.

Bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate is similar to a routine monopolar method in terms of efficacy and safety, but shortens the term of permanent urinary bladder irrigation, catheterization, and postsurgical bed-day.
